Ready to stop buying cleaning products from your grocery store or supermarket? In case you don’t already know, such products typically contain chemicals that may seem harmless to you, but are in fact quite harmful to the environment we all share.
In addition to the traces of toxic chemicals found in most store-bought cleaning products, you may simply throw away the plastic bottles like many other people do when they are empty. However, it’s important to realize that those bottles will end up in landfills and each one will add to the global warming problem we are currently trying to get under control.
While modern cleaning products may do the job, the chemicals they contain are relatively new to the market. Before World War 2, we mostly used common household products to clean with, such as vinegar, lemons and baking soda. While many of us have opted to use chemical-laden products that are quick and easy to buy off the shelf, the old solutions are still effective and they don’t pose the same threat to your health and the environment.
Read on to find simple, quick and short instructions on how to make your own green cleaning products using stuff you can probably find around your house.

When choosing jars and bottles, be sure you take a quick look around the house to find anything that can be reused before you go buying new containers. Body sprays often come in pumps that can be used to make your own green cleaning products, and hand creams or lotions sometimes come in jars large enough for this use.
Mix one part water with one part vinegar in one of your spray bottles to begin. The resulting product can be used to
add shine to your mirrors and windows alike. Spray onto an absorbent cloth and also use it to clean smudges off of light switches or doorknobs. For especially greasy spots, add a teaspoon of washing-up solution to your spray bottle and shake to mix.
Take one of your large jars and pour into it one cup of vinegar with 1/4 cup baking soda. Invite the kids to help you mix this cleaner, since it will fizz and begin to rise inside the jar. For this reason, it may be best to hold it over a toilet or sink in case it overflows. Take one of your pens and labels and mark this jar as toilet cleaner.
Next, pour the solution into the toilet while it’s fizzing and leave it set for ten minutes. Afterwards, scrub gently with a cleaning brush or use a pumice stone to rub away lime scale.
In your squeeze bottle, mix together 1/8 cup baking soda with 1/4 cup vinegar, then add one liter of water. Label this one as multi-purpose cleaner.
This mixture works great for removing soap scum from your bathroom surfaces and shower panels. It also effectively removes hard water deposits. Use this for cleaning sinks in the kitchen as well!
